Tools for Tracking
To help you get started tracking your progress towards your goals, there are a variety of tools at your disposal. Here are the three most commonly used tools that you might want to consider using:
Journal
Use a journal to keep a daily log of your progress towards important goals. This is a place where you can reflect on why your goals are important to you, what support you have towards achieving them, and what challenges you face along the way. Self-reflective learning is a powerful tool for your personal and professional development.
Calendar
Put a calendar where you can see it and dedicate this calendar to tracking your progress towards your goal. Check off each day that you make progress towards your goal with a big x. Keep doing this every day and DO NOT break the chain. The more days you have completed in a row, the more motivation you will feel not to break the chain. An unbroken chain like this is also known as a ‘streak’ in productivity psychology. The longer we maintain a streak, the more pressure we feel to keep up with it.
Apps and Software
There are several good progress tracking apps on the market to choose from. Many apps have fun features and rewards, like badges or progress charts, to keep you engaged and motivated to achieve your goal. Choose one that is simple, engaging, and works for you. Some apps allow you to share your progress towards a goal with your accountability partners or wider team. You can also use an app to set targets and milestones along the way, and even journal about your experience of progressing towards your goal.
